Me or my brother never got vaccinated for anything either. We never got sick but that's because a large percentage of the rest of the school kids did get their jabs so they provided barriers to the diseases like TB, polio etc spreading If everyone in the population had thought along JW lines then we'd still all be dying of typhoid, diptheria, mumps and lots of other nasty stuff. My families argument was also that some people have bad reactions to vaccinations and they weren't willing to take the chance. I'd say the risks of saving a million lives for the risk of 1 or 2 bad reactions is worth it.

NEW Interview with Bill Bowen of Silentlambs on recent events
by Dogpatch inthe last interview i did with bill bowen was in april of 2003, and new things have happened regarding the pedophile issues in the watchtower's corrupt system led by ted jaracz and his corporate cronies.
some things are the same (mainly wt policies), and others have changed.
it took 10 years to develop some legal precendents to be laid down in order for lawsuits against the catholic priest pedophiles to move ahead, and some important legal precedents have now been established in court so as to pave the road for effective lawsuits against the watchtower leaders for their complicity in allowing pedophiles to remain in the congregations in good standing, some even as elders.

Thanks for the post Randy that was very interesting. It seems like the overturning of ecclesiastical law in California could be a big step forward. Lets hope all other states follow suit.
You know what I worry about though; when the WTS is forced to hand over documentation about abuse that they have covered up that they will somehow destroy it or 'lose' it. After all the underhand tactics to forge the illusion of a whiter than white image I wouldn't put it past them. I just hope it doesn't happen that way.

Candid Interview with Kevin Smith on Prince
by daniel-p inthis is a 4-part series of video of kevin smith (director of dogma, chasing amy, jay and silent bob, etc) talking about his experience filming a documentary for prince.
this is a must-see, even if you don't care for celebrity gossip.
it's absolutely hilarious.

Thanks for the link, that was really funny. Prince has always been a bit loco with or without the witnesses so being in dubland will probably suit him just fine.
I haven't ever seen any of Kevin Smith's films. I'll have to check Dogma out, sounds interesting

I've got a nice yellowing copy on my bookshelf that was bought at the KH. Like as has already been mentioned in the 50's and 60's it was viewed almost as a society book.

I've met Avid Merrrion aka Leigh Francis. I used to work with his sister in law and he dropped in on a night out we'd arranged. Nice guy and not as mental as you might expect.

Thanks for the scans Just read through it all, not one iota of science in it. But then we all expected that anyway
The only interesting thing was the watching the world that mentioned that a live giant squid had been photographed.

(it's interesting that the evolutionary process of species, as currently understood; doesn't even contradict the book of Genesis - something that many fundamentalists ignore)
That's not strictly true as the order of creation in the bible is directly at odds with the order of biological evolution. For instance plants do not occur first in the fossil record like they do in the genesis account and the first flying creatures are not contemporaries of the first sea life, also there isn't a seperation of livestock and wild animal in the natural animal kingdom; that occurred over thousands of years as man slowly bred those animals for domestication. There are many other points but it's very clear that evolutionary biology doesn't agree with the bible account at any point.
I suppose the answer as to why god couldn't use evolution as a means of creation is why would he? As a glorified petri dish experiment? The overwhelming evidence is that there is no pre-destination to life and it's pretty egotistical to think that the culmination of creation is us. Evolution offers a much more humble approach; we aren't the zenith of life, everything that has happened wasn't leading up to us. A slug in the garden is as evolved as we are.
The reason the debate will go on is that scientists try to rejoin questions with answers. Saying a god did it isn't an answer.

Some of my fave cities are up in viking territory - Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. Only been to the capitals but the rest of the countryside is excellent too I've been told.
St Petersburg is nicer than Moscow IMO and the people are friendlier too. Budapest is nice also especially the old town. Haven't been but my brother just came back from there and it looks beautiful and unspoilt and he said it had some of the fittest women he ever saw (His wife was with him so he could only peek as they passed by)

That 'Kirkstall Prognosticator' rings a bell. My old tutor Steven Birt was also an author and historian on Leeds, kirkstall especially and I'm sure he told us about that dude.
I suppose with the Napoleonic wars going on at the time crackpots like George got something of hearing as everyone was in trepidation of what would happen in the world.Kirkstall is about 5 miles from where I live and I remember cycling down there as a kid and playing in the ruins of the medievel abbey. Bit rough down there now though, probably get your bike nicked.
